Durante il mio recente viaggio in Polonia ho trascorso un paio di giorni ad osservare e fotografare l'Aquila di mare coda bianca (Haliaeetus albicilla), della quale mi sono "innamorato".
Tanto che ho deciso di provare a fotografarla meglio. Un progetto per la cui realizzazione mi sono dedicato per alcune settimane.
Innanzitutto una accurata ricerca in internet mi ha permesso di stabilire che una delle migliori zone del Nord Europa in cui vivono questi rapaci è la Lapponia finlandese, per capirci la zona a nord di Rovaniemi (da lì in poi inizia la vera Finlandia secondo me...).

A questo punto, si trattava di cercare i contatti. In Italia esistono agenzie e fotografi professionisti che accompagnano in questa attività, ma io preferisco sempre organizzarmi da solo. Così ho contattato il più autorevole esponente di aquile in Finlandia, Eero Kemilä, fotografo e grande conoscitore della fauna lappone. La disponibilità era nel mese di aprile, il best time secondo Eero.
In poche mail e qualche ora di attività in internet mi sono prenotato tutto quanto un mese e mezzo prima e sono partito.
Tre giorni di foto e due di viaggio per raggiungere (aereo, auto, motoslitta....in quest'ordine...) il lago ghiacciato Lokka, più o meno 200 km a nord di Rovaniemi.
"At this point, it was a question of looking for contacts. In Italy there are agencies and professional photographers who accompany you in this activity, but I always prefer to organize myself. So I contacted the most authoritative eagle exponent in Finland, Eero Kemilä, photographer and great connoisseur of Lappish fauna. Availability was in the month of April, the best time according to Eero.
In a few e-mails and a few hours of internet activity, I booked everything a month and a half before and left.
Three days of photos and two days of travel to reach (plane, car, snowmobile ... in this order ...) the frozen lake Lokka, 200 km north of Rovaniemi."

I cosiddetti "combattimenti" sono in realtà semplici scaramucce, spesso senza nemmeno contatto fisico tra i contendenti, e spesso tutto si risolve con un paio di battito di ali, in pochi secondi uno dei due se ne va lasciando campo lbero all'altro. Insomma, duelli "spettacolari", avvengono ma in termini di 1 ogni 20 scaramucce.
"The so-called "fights" are in reality simple skirmishes, often without even physical contact between the contenders, and often everything is resolved with a pair of flapping of wings, in a few seconds one of the two eagles leaves leaving the other field. In short, "spectacular" duels take place but in terms of 1 every 20 skirmishes."

Cospicua la presenza di altre tre specie, in concomitanza con i rapaci, e cioè le Cornacchie grigie, i Corvi imperiali, e i Gabbiani.
The presence of three other species is remarkable, like the Hooded crows, the Ravens, and the seagulls.

Aquila reale, Golden eagle.....in 15 anni da che esistono questi capanni è la prima volta che vi fa la sua comparsa la Golden...e io ero appena partito.
Mi è andato di traverso il pranzo, ecco.

Sono stati tre giorni di fotografia, intensi e pieni di momenti eccezionali, ben 18 (diciotto!) le aquile presenti in contemporanea (record!).
